Club Spotlight: GOHS Esports

It is undeniable that video games are a major part of many students’ lives. It’s not only a great way to relieve stress from long school days and have fun with friends, but also helps to build and strengthen important social skills such as teamwork and communication. However, with a student population this large, it is often hard for students to find people that play similar video games at similar skill levels, and gaming is often stigmatized as being harmful to academics. What if there’s a place on campus where students can meet new people that also share the same passion for gaming, and even advance their academic life at the same time?

It is precisely for this reason and purpose that the GOHS Esports club was established, with the aim of developing it into a full-fledged esports program in the near future. If you are good at competitive video games and interested in putting your gaming skills into use, then the GOHS Esports Club is the place for you. This is *the* place to discuss and share gaming strategies with gamers just like you, and meet new people that share the same passion for gaming. With CIF approved competitions and other tournaments in shooter and MOBA video games coming next semester, it’s an amazing opportunity to advance your academic and social life while doing what you love. Join us every Monday at lunch in Room 202 for more information.

What makes video games fun for you?

“I would say the ability to display my difference in skill level with my opponent. The satisfaction of beating the opposition and establishing the gap between me and them is the best.” – Rafael Gopez

“The enjoyment I would get from just playing in a fictitious world, that let me do whatever I desired. I can be a military tactician or a world destroying boss, or build a city, it doesn’t matter, it’s always been fun, especially with friends.” – Fox Waltz
